Creating your own personalised sash, badge or rosette is a great way to make your event unique.
Over the years we've helped customers create thousands of designs, and we've learned that a few simple considerations can make a big difference to the finished result.
Personalised Sashes
Sashes are one of the easiest products to personalise, but there are a couple of things worth keeping in mind when choosing your wording and design.
- Keep Your Message Clear
Although we don't place a limit on the amount of text you can include, there is only a certain amount of wording that can be displayed comfortably when the sash is being worn. As a guide, shorter messages tend to be more eye-catching and easier to read in photographs.
- Consider Your Choice of Lettering
Sentence case (a combination of upper and lower case letters) is generally easier to read than text written entirely in capitals -especially for longer messages.
For example: Julie - The Birthday Queen is 50 is usually easier to read than JULIE - THE BIRTHDAY QUEEN IS 50
This becomes even more important when using decorative or script-style fonts.
- Adding your logo
It's no problem to add a logo, but there is just one limitation to our process that we need to mention. We print in one pass in one colour. So provided your are happy with the logo in one colour and the same colour as any text then we can print it.
- Go for a contrast text colour
The metallic colours stand out best on the darker, solid colours. The black text show up best on light colours.
Personalised Badges and Rosette Centres
When creating your own badge or rosette centre, a little extra preparation can help ensure the finished design looks its best.
- Make Sure Text Stands Out
Text that appears clear on a computer or mobile screen can sometimes appear less distinct when printed, particularly when dark text is placed on a dark background.
If your design includes darker colours, consider adding a light outline to the text. This can improve readability and help important wording stand out more clearly.
- Allow a Small Design Margin
Badge centres and rosette centres are mounted onto a shaped backing during production. For this reason, artwork that extends slightly beyond the edge of the visible design area generally produces the best results.
This is particularly useful when using coloured backgrounds, gradients or full-image designs, as it helps create a neat edge around the finished product.
- Consider How Images Will Be Cropped
Badges and rosette centres are circular, while many photographs and artwork files are rectangular.
When uploading a photograph or background image, bear in mind that some cropping may be required to fit the circular shape. Images with the main subject positioned centrally usually produce the best results.
If you're unsure whether your design will work well, don't worry — we're always happy to check artwork and advise before production.
